AN IMPORTANT ENGAGEMENT: Irina Lazareanu, the Canadian model-cum-singer, soon will be walking down an aisle, not a runway. Backstage at the shows on Tuesday, Lazareanu was spotted sporting an engagement ring given to her by Pete Doherty, the Babyshambles frontman. "I very recently got engaged," she said, but remained mum on when the big day is to be. Doherty and Lazareanu have been making music together for years, both for Babyshambles and with mutual friend Sean Lennon. Doherty famously had an on again-off again relationship with Kate Moss.

TRANSFORMERS: Artist Cindy Sherman, in Paris for Tuesday's Balenciaga show, slipped into a character that takes over many of the city's visitors: shopaholic. "We went to Dries Van Noten, Azzedine Alaïa," she rattled off. "I haven't been to a fashion show in Paris for about 15 years." Sherman, who had modeled looks from Balenciaga's fall collection for an eye-popping feature in the August issue of Paris Vogue, said she plans to continue doing works in a similar vein.

Meanwhile, Charlotte Gainsbourg revealed a Paris Vogue project of her own: She's guest editing its holiday issue. A few generations of French actresses also took in the show, including Catherine Deneuve, Isabelle Huppert, Amira Casar and Clémence Poésy.

NEXT-GENERATION FENDI: The Fendi clan turned out en masse at Colette Monday night to fete the first jewelry collection by 19-year-old Delfina Delettrez Fendi. "You're all here," exclaimed Karl Lagerfeld, as he was ushered in by the Fendi family, including host Delettrez Fendi; her mother, Silvia Venturini Fendi, and Carla Fendi.

"I love the Fendi women," said Christian Dior honcho Sidney Toledano.

When Delettrez Fendi coolly led Lagerfeld through the crowd to view her skull- and animal-shaped designs, he even lifted his trademark shades an inch for a closer look. So what was the verdict? "He really liked my work," Delettrez Fendi said, "but we were talking about my other baby," referring to daughter Emma, born this summer. Motherhood won't slow Delettrez Fendi down, though. She hopes a bag collection will be next.

HEAD AND SHOULDERS: Diesel honcho Renzo Rosso has been absent from the front rows since Dsquared in Milan and was MIA at Martin Margiela and Sophia Kokosolaki on Tuesday. But he has a good excuse: He just had surgery to fix a shoulder damaged from some rather daredevil aerial water skiing over the summer, but is said to be doing fine.
