A BARKIN TIME: Ellen Barkin may have auctioned off many of her jewels, but she sure hasn't lost some of her glittering appeal — at least not to the fashion crowd. The actress will serve as the host at the CFDA Fashion Awards on June 4. Barkin, who happens to be a close friend of CFDA president Diane von Furstenberg and is a front-row regular at her show, couldn't have timed this gig any better. "Ocean's Thirteen," which Barkin stars in alongside George Clooney, Matt Damon and Brad Pitt, also celebrates its premiere that week.
Barkin won't be the only Hollywood star to descend upon the New York Public Library: Uma Thurman has been confirmed to present Patrick Demarchelier with the Eleanor Lambert Award. The awards ceremony, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, will also have at least one major fashion moment. Calvin Klein and Donna Karan are slated to take to the podium together to present Robert Lee Morris with the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award.
COMING BACK: London is set to get another star designer come the city's fashion week in September — but this time around, the talent is actually British. Luella Bartley will return to her hometown to show her spring collection and to celebrate the opening of her 1,400 square-foot store on Brook Street, which is slated to bow in late summer. It's not yet confirmed whether Bartley will continue to show in London after her spring show, a spokeswoman for the designer said.
Bartley, who has shown her collection in New York since September 2001, has long drawn on London as inspiration for her work. Her first show in London in February 2000 was called "Daddy, who were the Clash?" and she has since channeled everything from the Sloane Rangers to Mods. After Bartley's London jaunt, a Luella store is set to open in Hong Kong in September, while a shop-in-shop unit opened in Takashiyma in Tokyo in March.
NAME GAME: Chloë Sevigny has appeared in fashion campaigns before, but perhaps never one so apt as this: Word has it the actress will be featured in ads for a new Chloé fragrance, recently shot by photographers Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. The Chloé scent is due out later this year.
