'Fashion Hackathon' Comes to NYFW

Top engineers will have 24 hours to create an app to support the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s mission.

TECH AT THE TENTS: The world’s first Fashion Hackathon — a competition in which top engineers will have 24 hours to create an app to support the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s mission — will take place Feb. 2 and 3 at The Alley NYC at 500 Seventh Avenue. Over 400 hackers have already signed up, and will be broken into teams, given the brief, and have 24 hours to create the idea. On Feb. 3, judges will pick the top three ideas, and the finalists will receive a chance to present on the stage at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in front of tech and fashion industry leaders. The winner, selected by the CFDA and other industry leaders, will also receive $10,000 and the opportunity to have their app launched.

The Decoded Fashion forum and the Hackathon finale will take place Feb. 14 during fashion week at Lincoln Center. Participants include Candy Pratts Price as emcee; Dennis Crowley of FourSquare; Susan Lyne of Gilt Group; Uri Minkoff, chief executive officer of Rebecca Minkoff; Shauna Mei of AHALife; Valentine Uhovski of Tumblr, and Rachel Roy. In addition, several startups, such as Cinematique, Kapture, Fashion.me and Glossi, will discuss their companies.

Liz Bacelar and Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, cofounders of Decoded Fashion, are coproducing the Hackathon and tech forum.
