FASHION FRINGE’S NEW JUDGES: London’s Fashion Fringe program has two new judges for its 2011 program — Claudia Schiffer and Roland Mouret. The model and designer will add to a judging panel that includes Anne Pitcher, managing director of Selfridges; Roy Peach, dean of the graduate school at the London College of Fashion, and Bel Jacobs, style editor at the British newspaper Metro. The new panel takes over from Fashion Fringe’s former honorary chairperson John Galliano, who was due to act in that role for two years from 2010, but for obvious reasons was not available to be involved in the program this year, a spokeswoman for Fashion Fringe said.
Applications open today for the 2011 scheme, which offers the winner a two-year development package worth about 100,000 pounds, or $162,000 at current exchange. That includes cash, business advice, mentoring and a studio at London’s Somerset House. The scheme was set up by fashion journalist Colin McDowell and IMG in 2004. Applications will close May 4, and three designers will be short listed to show their collections during London Fashion Week in September, when a winner will be chosen. In addition to their development package, the winner will benefit from an on-schedule show at London Fashion Week for the following two seasons.
