Already training eight hours a day for next year’s Sochi Olympics, gold medalist Evan Lysacek took a breather Wednesday night to cheer on Olympic gymnast Nastia Liukin at The Heart Truth’s Red Dress. Vera Wang will once again design his costume, and he is excited to see what Ralph Lauren creates for the U.S. team. As a Ralph Lauren sponsored athlete, Lysacek dropped by the designer’s offices earlier in the day and was impressed by how calm the team was about Thursday’s show. “The shows really are like their Olympics,” he said.
Designer suits are in order when traveling as one of 18 sports envoys for the U.S. State Department. The United Arab Emirates, Austria, Belarus and Sweden have been his stops thus far. Now that he is spending four hours on the ice and four more in the weight room each day, the LA-based Lysacek wishes he could tie in his good will trips to ice skating competitions. The 27-year-old squelched those rumors about Wang being his paramour. “No, we’re just friends,” he said.
