EDITORIAL ETSY: Etsy and Dossier have teamed to launch a pop-up shop on Manhattan’s Lower East Side.
Open during September from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. daily, the shop at 79 Delancy Street, offers art, gifts, clothing, jewelry, home and lifestyle products from Etsy wholesale, Etsy’s new private, juried marketplace where retailers can source from professional designers. Etsy.com is an online Web site for buying and selling unique items that are often handmade. Dossier, a Brooklyn-based arts and culture magazine, has experience with pop ups with Dossier Outpost, a series of shops and events this summer that were held in repurposed shipping containers at the South Street Seaport.
Dossier creative director Skye Parrott andcollaborator Stephanie Tran curated Etsy x Dossier. “They have a very unique eye,” said Vanessa Bertozzi, Etsy wholesale senior program director. “The Etsy x Dossier pop-up shop is such an exciting event for us because it’s not only a beautifully curated shop that’s open to the public, but it also doubles as a way for retailers to browse the goods in-person, in addition to online.”
Etsy is no stranger to pop-ups itself. It opened in 2012 a temporary shop in SoHo that was curated by Tavi, Martha Stewart and Swiss Miss designer Tina Roth Eisenberg. This won’t be the last of physical retail for Etsy. “We are going to continue to play and experiment,” Bertozzi said, adding that physical retail makes “everything feel human. You will be seeing more of Etsy in real life.”
