ESCADA, W TEAM UP WITH TEAM TODD: Escada’s fashion director Daniel Wingate got a jump on awards season dressing as co-host of a party with producers Jennifer and Suzanne Todd and W magazine at the brand’s Beverly Hills boutique on Thursday night. “The red carpet is super glamorous and a great moment for the brand to showcase its designs. I hope it’s going to change a bit more because there is still a frumpy connotation of how a woman should dress on the red carpet and I think it could be a lot more modern,” said Wingate. One of the alternative looks he was touting, the jumpsuit, was worn by Julianne Hough. “A pouffy Cinderella gown of course is always the fantasy of every young girl, but their opinions are changing. Today every woman wants to feel sexy, dynamic and individual,” he said.
Sasha Alexander, Sarah Rue and Andie Macdowell were among the guests who showed up in colorful dresses. which Wingate said he hopes to see more of come Oscar season, like the blue racer-back Escada gown Edie Falco wore to the Emmys. “Maybe less is more. It’s doesn’t have to be all sparkly and shiny.” His inspiration for pre-fall 2014? “James Turrell and the colors of his light works.”
