Eric Javits Upgrades His Showroom

The accessories designer, who occupied a showroom near Bryant Park for nearly 20 years, has moved to bigger, more spacious digs.

JAVITS’ SPACE: Eric Javits has a new showroom to call his own. The accessories designer, who occupied a showroom near Bryant Park for nearly 20 years, has moved to bigger, more spacious digs.

Located at 20 West 22nd Street in New York’s Flatiron District, the showroom was designed by Kristiaen Van Gastel, who transformed the room into a clean, yet inviting space.

“When I saw what a great job Kristiaen did on a friend’s apartment, I knew he would be able to create the perfect environment for my collection,” Javits said. “I am known for my packable sun hats and coordinating bags and sandals, so it would have been tempting for someone to march in and give the space a Palm Beach sensibility. Kristiaen did the exact opposite. Upon seeing the raw space, he said, ‘Let’s not pretend that we are not in an industrial building.’”

Situated on the 16th floor, with views of Midtown and the Empire State Building, the showroom incorporates a white and pale gray palette, which complements Van Gastel’s use of glass and mirror.

“I strived to create a sleek, seamless backdrop which would feel intimate and serene. Eric’s designs are identifiably chic,” Van Gastel said. “I call it accessible snob appeal, so I had to create an environment which reflects the products’ sophisticated spirit.”
