ELECTRIC YOUTH: On Monday night, the Cinema Society and Make Up For Ever hosted a screening at the IFC Center in Manhattan of “Electrick Children,” a fantastical coming-of-age film, based on the premise of rock music prompting a Mormon teen’s immaculate conception. “It’s pretty out there,” said costar Billy Zane of the premise. “It’s certainly curious.…I was like, ‘I’m in, that’s thoroughly twisted.’”
Regarding her debut lead performance in the movie, rising star Julia Garner said visiting Las Vegas was a particularly memorable part of filming. “It was the first time I had been to Vegas, and I was like, ‘What is this place?” said the 19-year-old actress, who wore a neutral-toned Calvin Klein Collection dress and, she noted, black pumps she found at Marshalls. Garner, who revealed her own “immaculate conception music” would be Led Zeppelin’s “Houses of the Holy,” said that as a “Jewish girl from New York” digging into the extremely religious Christian role was easier thanks to director Rebecca Thomas’ Mormon upbringing. “I didn’t have much time to prepare, but luckily Rebecca guided me through everything and how she was raised,” said Garner.
The after party held on the rooftop of the Hotel Americano featured Make Up For Ever “touch-ups” for partygoers.
