OFF THE RUNWAY: So many high-rollers will be touching down for this weekend’s inaugural festivities that as of 10 p.m. tonight Dulles International Airport will close one of its four runways to accommodate private jet parking. At least 300 Gulfstreams, Learjets and other private planes are expected to land this weekend compared to the typical 150 or 200, a Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority spokeswoman said Thursday.
The closure of the western-most runway will not affect airport operations, she said. Dulles authorities will evaluate the situation throughout the weekend, the MWAA spokeswoman said. As the Beltway’s busiest airport, Dulles typically handles 1,000 flights in total each day.
