Duchess of Cambridge Names Cruise Ship

Kate Middleton smashed a bottle of Champagne over the hull of the Royal Princess.

SHIP SHAPE: For her last solo engagement before the birth of her baby, the Duchess of Cambridge headed to Southampton, on England’s south coast, to launch Princess Cruise’s new 3,600-passenger vessel, Royal Princess.

As she stepped from her car and proceeded to her seat on the quayside, members from the Band of her Majesty's Royal Marines Portsmouth accompanied by the Pipers of the 1st Battalion Irish Guards lined Kate's route to her seat and played “Pomp And Circumstance” and sea shanties.

The duchess, eight months pregnant, wore a black and white animal print coat by Hobbs with a black hat to perform her duties as the ship’s godmother, a symbolic position that dates back to the mid-19th century. In keeping with the tradition, she cut a rope that released a magnum of Moet & Chandon to break on the hull.

The Duchess is due to give birth in mid-July.
