Gucci Throws Fete in Houston

Luxury brand imported artisans from Florence to create updated versions of the Bamboo and the Jackie, two of the brand’s iconic bags.

DOWN IN TEXAS: Gucci brought a slice of Italian craftsmanship and a bit of performance art to its Houston Galleria store, importing artisans from Florence to create updated versions of the Bamboo and the Jackie, two of the brand’s iconic bags. The private party was a combined celebration for Gucci’s 90th anniversary, the newly remodeled store, Houston’s Children’s Charity and the new take on the vintage bags.

It was a homecoming of sorts for Laura Lendrum, president of Gucci Americas, who attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas and said the time was right to come to the city, artisans in tow.

“This is the heartbeat of our heritage and a way to bring a piece of our Italy to the U.S.,” Lendrum said. “We just refreshed the store and this is a great way to reopen it.” Gucci’s artisans head next to Mexico City.
