Don and Jon: Don Draper would have felt at home in Casa Lever’s midcentury decor, which is where Jaeger-LeCoultre’s newly revamped Reverso watch model was unveiled over lunch Thursday. Draper’s real-life alter-ego, Jon Hamm, was on hand as a “friend” of the brand — he was introduced to it by his uncle, Gary Tobey, who’s an avid watch collector — and wore a replica of the original Reverso watch as Don Draper on “Mad Men.” Hamm (or was it Draper?) called Jaeger “a quiet brand,” comparing it with Bottega Veneta, who does “one thing, very well.”
The latest incarnation of the Reverso is slightly larger than the 1931 original, though with identical proportions. The timepiece is thin with a rectangular silhouette, and will be in limited production (about 100 will be available in the U.S.) and will retail for $7,600.
In addition to his television work, Hamm is producing (an endeavor that he described as “terrifying”), “Friends With Kids” with longtime girlfriend Jennifer Westfeldt, who is directing. The duo also stars in the film, along with Ed Burns, Megan Fox and Kristen Wiig.
During lunch, the actor briefly lamented the intrusions of celeb-stalking technology like Twitter and Foursquare — in addition to the paparazzi, who daily “watch me walk my dog.” Hamm said he’s “pretty boring,” and made a point to keep a low-key profile. “The places I go…no one gives a s--t,” he laughed.
