SPIRITED AWAY: Dior is taking its French couture spirit to the heart of Beijing — Tiananmen Square. “Esprit Dior,” a sprawling exhibition featuring more than 100 dresses, is to open at the National Museum of China on Nov. 13 and run through January.
Curated by Florence Muller, the showcase is to explore 10 themes via clothing, accessories, perfumes, Patrick Demarchelier photos and works by Chinese contemporary artists including Liu Jian Hua, Zhang Huan and Wen Fang. Founder Christian Dior’s love of gardens, the maison’s celebrity connections and its emblematic codes are among the themes, with high jewelry also getting its owng spotlight.
The recently renovated showpiece museum in Beijing hosted a trunk-based exhibition about Louis Vuitton in 2011.
