TOKYO WAY: Dior unveiled its revamped Tokyo Ginza flagship on Thursday night and opened the doors on its traveling “Lady Dior As Seen By” exhibition, which runs through May 20. Guests including actresses Louise Bourgoin and Ryoko Yonekura toured the installation featuring the work of artists such as Peter Lindberg, Martin Parr and Olympia Scarry, who was also present at the event. The crowd gradually made its way to the Dior store around the corner to take in the new store’s new “hôtel particulier” environs in line with the brand’s other major flagships.
Dior president and chief executive officer Sidney Toledano, who made his way to Tokyo after a couture show in Shanghai the previous week, said he’s been picking up encouraging signs from the Japanese market and the house performed well in the country in the first quarter of the year. Dior’s interim creative director, Bill Gaytten, is busy designing the house’s cruise collection, which will be presented to stores in May, before he steps aside to make way for an incoming Raf Simons. Gaytten will continue to helm the John Galliano brand, Toledano said.
“He’s a great guy. I’m sure he’ll do a fantastic job at Galliano. He’s been doing a fantastic job at Dior in the interim,” Toledano said.
