AUCTION ACTION: A bright red G-Shock watch standing out against his classic business suit, auctioneer Simon de Pury hit the decks Wednesday night at hip Paris boutique Colette to celebrate the opening of his photography exhibition. De Pury, dubbed the “man with the golden gavel” by the BBC, revels in such contradictions. “Ever since I was a teenager, I have been just as interested in music as I have in art,” De Pury told WWD. “It’s actually very similar to auctioneering: as an auctioneer, you want everybody to bid energetically, and as a D.J. you want them to dance energetically.” De Pury mixed mostly house tunes during the party, which attracted an eclectic mix of fashion folk, in town for the men’s shows, and people from the art world. “PuryParisGraphy” is a series of abstract close-ups of objects, materials, places and landscapes snapped on his travels. The exhibition runs through Jan.29.
