DAVID AND DENEUVE: What better endorsement for David Yurman’s first European concession than French icon Catherine Deneuve attending the opening party and delivering her verdict: “Assez chic” or “Chic enough”? The actress joined David and Sybil Yurman, Printemps owner Maurizio Borletti and the department store’s chairman Paolo de Cesare plus hundreds of guests at the luxurious Yurman boutique within Printemps’ revamped jewelry floor Monday night. “I’ve only ever seen his designs in photographs,” said Deneuve. “It’s rather noisy but hot here, thankfully, after the freezing Yves Saint Laurent show.” Yurman, who created five exclusive pieces for the Printemps boutique, said he’s planning a limited edition retrospective line to celebrate the brand’s 30th anniversary this year. “I’m going to go back to my collections from the Eighties and Nineties and take 30 pieces, update them, sign and limit them,” he said, adding the designs will be introduced in series of 10 throughout the year, and will be sold exclusively at the Yurman New York flagship. Continuing its expansion in the European market, meanwhile, Yurman executives will this week scout a location for a freestanding boutique in London. Son Evan Yurman discussed his private, bespoke jewelry, which includes such quirky designs as dragons and dinosaurs, with actress Julie Gayet. After finishing his Yves Saint Laurent album, singer Alain Chamfort said he’s turning his attention to the Saint Laurent musical tribute set for 2011. Just don’t call it a musical. “It’s a concert with a performance based on the Saint Laurent archives, not a musical,” he affirmed.
