COLUMBIA CUTS: Columbia Sportswear has reduced its staff. Executives will not say exactly how many, but insiders said about 10 employees were laid off before the holidays. A Columbia spokesman said Friday, “We regularly adapt the size and structure of our internal teams in response to market opportunities and strategic direction. Any recent staffing changes are in line with this ongoing and regular adaptation.”
One executive who remains in place is Adrienne Moser, who heads up the apparel team. President and chief executive officer Tim Boyle has taken on “an active and direct role overseeing the go-to-market team including the apparel division. He continues to rely on Adrienne and the talented team she has assembled on a day-to-day basis.”
The shake-up may stem from the departure of Michael “Mick” McCormick, who resigned in August as executive vice president of global sales and marketing. At that time, Boyle took over McCormick’s role on an interim basis, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing following his exit.
Boyle deferred comment to the spokesman and McCormick could not be reached for comment Friday.
In other Columbia news, Boyle’s 88-year-old mother, Gert, recently told Oregonian media that she is doing just fine two years after three men attempted to kidnap her from her home. The elder Boyle, who serves as chairwoman of the company her father founded 75 years ago, is still working.
