MARKING A DECADE: Colette’s windows are all dolled up and ready to go, thanks to Linda Farrow. The Parisian store is devoting a window at its rue Saint Honoré shop to the eyewear brand for the 10th anniversary of its relaunch. In the window, Penelope, a life-size, irreverent, jet-set doll imagined by J. David McKinney, a celebrated doll maker, sits on a Louis XV chaise lounge chair wearing limited edition pieces created by a selection of designers in celebration of the 10th anniversary. She wears a couture gown, with shoes by Nicholas Kirkwood, a necklace by Mawi, and a pair of Linda Farrow’s best-selling cat-eye sunglasses, which have been updated with a gold-plated metal temple adornments on the arms and a snakeskin inlay.
“In a very intimate moment before her guests arrive [for her party], Penelope is preparing herself in her boudoir, trying all the gifts she has received. This special voyeuristic moment, like the one you might watch though a keyhole, is a metaphor of the Linda Farrow attitude toward luxury,” explained Tracy Sedino, co-founder and co-creative director at Linda Farrow. “Penelope, waiting in her doll box window, is an embodiment a balance between sobriety and decadence, timeless beauty.”
Penelope’s appearance in Paris is the first of several global cameos, with various window and in-store installations appearing at select stores around the world. The window at Colette is in situ until Sunday. Then Penelope will cross the Channel, to appear at Selfridges on September 9, in time for London Fashion Week.
In addition to the Mawi necklace and Kirkwood shoes, Linda Farrow tapped eight other brands to create a limited edition collection — available for purchase at select locations — including a playsuit by Agent Provocateur, a bag by Bottega Pb1, a candle by Cire Trudon, stockings by Falke and a fur jacket by Saga Furs, among others.
