COLD SALE: Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow — or at least get cold.
If the weather in New York City falls below 39 degrees today, a new Web site will go live allowing customers to pick up apparel and accessories at deeply discounted prices. If the temperature is 39 degrees or less at midnight, WeatherOnSale.com will offer five women’s coats from Weatherproof for $39. The coats will be available until supplies last. Men’s products will be available in January for a yet-to-be-determined temperature and price in a particular city, and the company expects to offer a variety of products from various manufacturers throughout the year.
Founded by cousins David Peyser, 18, Shai Peyser, 23 and David Rifkin, 23, WeatherOnSale started as an idea at a family gathering for their grandmother’s birthday. “It has always bothered us when apparel retailers blame the weather for their problems, so we decided to make weather the solution,” said Rifkin.
Details on WeatherOnSale were sent to discount sites including AnyLuckyDay, Slickdeals and Eversave, asking potential customers to sign up for e-mail alerts to be notified when the mercury — and prices — drop.
