LONDON — Over 50 works featuring Kate Moss will be sold at Christies on Sept. 25 as part of “Kate Moss — The Collection," which has been curated by collector Gert Elfering.
Given Moss’ oeuvre, photographs dominate the collection, with images — both well known and less familiar — from Mary McCartney, Juergen Teller, Ellen von Unwerth, Mario Sorrenti, Irving Penn, Sam Taylor-Johnson, Craig McDean and Mario Testino. There is the 2003 British Vogue image by Nick Knight depicting Moss as David Bowie’s “Aladdin Sane”; a 2005 French Vogue cover by David Sims; and an image of the model in a torn mesh veil, shot by Albert Watson in 1993, within the offering.
There is also a specially commissioned sculpture and a painting by Allen Jones, a collage by Sir Peter Blake, a tapestry by Chuck Close and an18ct gold sculpture of Moss as a naked angel by Nick Knight.
“[Moss] is the subject and inspiration for this collection, but the importance of the present works is in her collaboration with the internationally renownedartists who created them,” said Elfering. “Kate is the ultimatemodern muse and we will be seeing her images in major museums and private collections for years to come.”
The sale is estimated to fetch in the region of 1 million pounds and estimates for the lots range from 4,000 pounds (about $6,050 at current exchange) for a print, to 150,000 pounds (about $226,900) for a lenticular print on a lightbox by Chris Levine.
The public will be able to view the exhibition from Sept. 21 for four days before the sale.
