LIGHTNESS OF BEING: Chloé founder Gaby Aghion, 92, is to be awarded the Legion of Honor on Dec. 16. French culture and communications minister Aurélie Filippetti is to decorate her with the medal.
The Egyptian-born designer created the Chloé label in 1952 as an antidote to the stiff formality of couture and used fine fabrics to create feminine, alluring clothes that required minimal alteration. She also hired a range of high-profile designers, including Karl Lagerfeld, Maxime de la Falaise and Gérard Pipart.
Now owned by Swiss luxury group Compagnie Financière Richemont, Chloé recently marked its 60th anniversary with a retrospective exhibition in Paris and a Rizzoli tome.
