Tamara Mellon Speaks at WellChild Benefit in London

Some 200 guests and patrons of the charity that supports sick children and their families across the U.K. attended the event at Harvey Nichols.

CHILDREN’S HOUR: Tamara Mellon was in full flow on Thursday night during an evening to raise funds for the WellChild charity at Harvey Nichols in London. "I don't think girls under 18 should model," said Mellon during a Q&A with Sara Sands, editor of the London Evening Standard. "It's a tough business psychologically to be in as a young girl, and nobody needs a face under 18; 18 is perfect." Mellon also said the fashion industry has "fallen in love with a little shapeless body," and added that she has sent "girls home for being too thin."

Some 200 guests and patrons of the charity that supports sick children and their families across the U.K. attended a show of spring summer 2014 looks featuring labels such as Alexander McQueen, Givenchy, Lanvin and Stella McCartney. The event raised more than 27,000 pounds, or $45,000 at current exchange, with help from 100 Women in Hedgefunds, which has partnered with the charity for the year. "I love a female audience,” said Mellon. “And it’s a great cause, providing health care for children and families who really need it.”
