AS GOD IS MY WITNESS: Judges Georgina Chapman and Isaac Mizrahi spoke animatedly about their roles on “Project Runway All Stars” with the show’s host Angela Lindvall, much to the amusement of Thursday night’s fan-heavy audience at The Paley Center. When moderator Joanne Coles inquired about how they decided what to wear, Chapman described “rummaging” through her Marchesa showroom. “We don’t have anything that’s not a gown and sparkly. We had to rustle some things up. But it was good inspiration and we have a new resort collection from it,” said Chapman, whose husband, Harvey Weinstein, caught the discussion from start to finish. The show’s executive producer, Rob Bagshaw, also weighed in on the stage.

With a nod to Mizrahi, Chapman noted more than once how they were “taken aback by the level of talent.” She continued, “We really saw ourselves as mentors rather than as judges. Really half the time when we were seeing the projects they were doing I was questioning whether I can do it, and I was thinking, ‘I am really glad that I am not up on that stage.’”

Mizrahi said, “Objectivity was the challenge, really, for both of us. There were certain designers I related to more. But I would be an awful judge if I actually favored someone I liked. I just had to look at it as a popular kind of…like God makes the judgment, not me, it just comes through my mouth. But fashion is a community. They had to live with each other in the same way that we have to live with others who live in our world. We have to see what they’re doing with all that. So in some way not having any expectations about who you liked was the most important thing to bring to this.”
