Chanel to Stage Exhibit in Seoul

Entitled “The Sense of Places,” the show highlights places that inspired Coco Chanel throughout her life.

SENSE AND SENSIBILITY: Gabrielle Chanel was an avid traveller who could find inspiration in anything from a new encounter to the flair of a new place she visited. “The Sense of Places,” a new Culture Chanel exhibit, is to trace the designer’s creative voice via the locations that she either lived in or that enriched her distinct, stylistic language.

Slated to run from Aug. 30 through Oct. 5 at the new Dongdaemun Design Plaza, in a building by Zaha Hadid in Seoul, the show is built around more than 500 photographs, books, objects, manuscripts, archives and artworks along with Chanel’s fashion, jewelry, watch and perfume creations.

Divided into 10 sequences, each focusing on a landmark in Mademoiselle Chanel’s life and curated by Jean-Louis Froment, it will lead visitors from Aubazine to Deauville and from Paris to Venice.

The exhibition reveals “the true spirit of Chanel,” the fashion house said, “and sheds light on the real and imaginary life of one of the foremost creators of the 20th century.”
