CARVEN COMES TO SOHO: Paris-based Carven will open its first U.S. boutique at 83 Mercer Street in New York’s SoHo neighborhood on Nov. 14. The 1,600-square-foot space is designed by Eric Chevallier, who conceived all of Carven’s retail locations since 2009, under the oversight of Carven creative director Guillaume Henry. Offering both women’s and men’s collections, the store will feature an imposing ceiling light installation, a marble cash wrap that recalls a cinema box office, a mosaic floor of red concrete and red-dyed plywood and furniture from Domeau & Pérès.
The store — in a space previously occupied by the Curve boutique, which is now on Bond Street — will be Carven’s 16th global unit, including shops in Paris, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan. The French house, which dates back to 1944, will open its first London store on Nov. 7 and two in Shanghai on Oct. 30. Henry and Carven’s chief executive officer, Henri Sebaoun, will travel to New York to open the SoHo store next month.
