DIAMONDS IN DENVER: Denver is about to get a bit more sparkle. The Denver Art Museum has teamed up with Cartier as sole venue for “Brilliant: Cartier in the 20th Century.” The exhibition, organized by the museum and curated by Margaret Young-Sanchez, will feature an assortment of jewelry, timepieces and precious objects produced by Cartier between 1900 and 1975. A majority of the pieces will come directly from the Cartier Collection and its archives, while some will be on loan from private collections and museums. The show will be broken down into seven categories, Young-Sanchez explained during a press preview held on Tuesday morning: Aristocracy and Aspiration, Art Deco: New Outlook, Art Deco: Foreign Fascination, Masculine View, Art of Smoking, Age of Glamour, and Icons of Style. The exhibit will open on Nov, 16, and run through March 15, 2015.
Tuesday’s press preview marked Mercedes Abramo’s first appearance as chief executive officer of Cartier North America, officially stepping into the role on June 1. Abramo, who was formerly vice-president of retail, replaces Emmanuel Perrin who has been promoted to commercial director for Cartier International. “It’s very much a continuation of my previous role,” Abramo told WWD of her first day on the job. “I’m very fortunate that I was running of all our stores in North America beforehand. It’s really exciting to be leading this team.”
