CARA PACKAGE: In lieu of a runway show this season, Mulberry unveiled a new collection of bags, designed by Cara Delevingne against the backdrop of a dreamy tableau created by Michael Howells.

Delevingne, who stars in the brand’s spring-summer campaign, has created one multi-tasking bag in a variety of iterations aimed at women on the move.

“I was quite strong about what I wanted – something practical for the modern-day woman – or man,” she said, adding that she also demanded something hard wearing.

She recalled some of her first bags: A Peruvian style from her days as a student traveling abroad; and her first Mulberry, the Edie style with a patterned guitar strap that she used to take to music festivals. She wore out both of them.

“I usually wear bags until they break. If I like them I want to wear them all the time,” said the 21-year-old model following a short presentation in the ballroom at Claridge’s.

During the presentation, she donned a loose white dress, lazed on a wooden swing, and later twirled around a set designed by Howells, based on Gustav Klimt’s paintings of birch forests. A group of gray whippets – and floor strewn with 25,000 paper leaves – completed the faux forest scene.

The Cara Delevingne Collection comprises one style in three sizes, in a variety of different colors and materials for a total of 17 skus. Featuring two handles and the signature Mulberry flap and gold lock at the front, it can be toted, worn over the shoulder, or carried as a backpack.

A special limited edition features gold lion-shaped studs, mirroring the lion tattoo on Delevingne’s finger.

This was not Delevingne’s first crack at such design: She recalled that as a student she studied textiles, and made her own handbag. “It was horrible, gross – with polka dots. But had I made this bag, I would have definitely gotten an A,” she said pointing to the emerald green quilted Mulberry number next to her.

The bags will launch from mid-August in Mulberry stores, concessions and online worldwide. Prices range from 890 to 1,250 pounds, or $1,090 to $1,530 at current exchange rates.
