CROWNING COUTURE: Now that Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee Year has finished, it’s time to celebrate the 60th anniversary of her coronation. This summer, Buckingham Palace will hold an exhibition showcasing the royal wardrobe and uniforms worn for the occasion. “This will be the first time since 1953 that the outfits of the principal royal party have been displayed together,” said exhibition curator Caroline de Guitaut. Displays will include the Queen’s white satin Coronation dress designed by Norman Hartnell; her 21 feet long robe; the diamond diadem created by Rundell, Bridge and Rundell; and the coronet of the Duke of Edinburgh. The display will also include a range of ensembles worn by the royal party as well as paintings, photos by Cecil Beaton, and other relevant objects from the day. “As Buckingham Palace itself was very much a focal point for the celebrations on Coronation Day, it is an appropriate setting for visitors to experience something of the atmosphere of that historic day.” said de Guitaut. The Queen’s Coronation 1953 will run from July 27th until September 29th.
