LONDON — The British Fashion Council will spotlight a clutch of young designers from around the world as part of a cultural program to mark the 2012 London Olympics.
The inaugural International Fashion Showcase will take place during London Fashion Week, and showcase the work of some 80 emerging designers from such far-flung locales as China, Australia, Uzbekistan and the United States.
The project is has been jointly organized by the BFC and the British Council, and is part of the Fashion 2012 Cultural Program, which is taking place during the Olympic year.
Embassies and cultural institutions in London will host their country’s designers, and open their doors to press and buyers during the week. The BFC will give an award to the country that showcases the best emerging fashion talent. The winner is to be announced on Sunday, Feb. 19.
Parsons will present 10 of its first American graduate students in fashion design at Benjamin Franklin House, while a selection of the best emerging African talent from Botswana, Nigeria and Sierra Leone will be on display at the British Council offices, curated by the V&A's Carol Tulloch.
