BRIT DESIGNERS POP UP AT BICESTER: British designer outlet Bicester Village unveiled a pop-up store to showcase the wares of young British designers Wednesday. It’s the third year that Bicester, near Oxford, has hosted the shop, called the British Designers Collective. The boutique, which opened in collaboration with the British Fashion Council, carries designers including Jonathan Saunders, Nicholas Kirkwood, Preen, Osman and Marios Schwab, and has been designed to look “quintessentially English,” said Desirée Bollier, chief executive officer of Value Retail Management Ltd., of which Bicester is part. Indeed, the store’s facade is clad in lush green foliage, while the interiors are done out with trompe l’oeil classical columns and cornicing along with faux parquet floors. Alexa Chung, the spokesperson for the British Designers Collective, hosted the opening.
Bollier said that last year the boutique had “very good sell-through.” “I think we managed to do 350,000 euros [$463,000] in a month, so for all these young designers that’s fantastic,” Bollier said. The store will be open through May 9, and will be followed by a men’s British Designers Collective boutique, which will bow May 16. That store will carry designers including YMC, Oliver Spencer, Margaret Howell and Richard James.
