BOLD MOVE: Boldface Licensing + Branding’s legal battles aren’t scaring off high-profile board members. Patrick Collins, a partner at JH Partners, the San Francisco private equity firm that made its name in the beauty sector by successfully backing Bare Escentuals and has beauty brands Ouidad, Go Smile and Kate Somerville currently in its portfolio, has joined the board of Santa Monica, Calif.-based Boldface.

The company, holder of the license for the Kardashian sisters’ makeup brand marketed under the name Khroma Beauty by Kourtney, Kim and Khloé, has filed an appeal in the Ninth Circuit to reverse a decision by the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California Judge Audrey Collins granting a preliminary injunction, which was immediately stayed pending the appeal, blocking the manufacture, sale and distribution of Khroma Beauty. The preliminary injunction stemmed from a trademark dispute between Boldface and Lee Tillett Inc., an Altamonte Springs, Fla.-based company that sells a line called Kroma Makeup.

Collins’ fellow board members at Boldface include Emil Rensing, chief digital officer of Epix, and chairman Ronald Altbach, president of Regeneration Capital Group.

In the quarter ended Dec. 31, Boldface generated slightly more than $1.5 million in sales and $2 million in net losses. In addition to the Kardashians’ makeup line, Boldface has the license for male fragrance and toiletry products using Mario Lopez’s image, and is expected to launch those products this year. At the end of last month, the company closed a second round of private placement financing totaling $1.13 million with Aegis Capital Corp. acting as the placement agent.
