Tom Binns has been tapped to design two collections for Disney Consumer Products in conjunction with its March release of Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland" starring Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway and Helena Bonham Carter. "I'm not really a Mickey Mouse kind of guy, but 'Alice' is a weird little story and my imagination lends itself to that crazy world and works well with his vibe," said Binns of Burton, who once worked for Disney as an animator. The Tom Binns for Walt Disney Signature line will feature six limited edition pieces inspired by characters Alice, the Mad Hatter, the Red Queen, the White Queen and the White Rabbit. The $1,000 to $2,000 pieces will retail in stores such as Bergdorf Goodman and Barneys New York. Tom Binns for Disney Couture will feature 35 pieces ranging from $100 to $500 for wider distribution in Bloomingdale's, Macy's and boutiques such as Kitson and Fred Segal. "It's nice to have large-scale pieces and little bits that everyone can own. I don't think of jewelry as being that precious," said Binns. Disney also has Alice-inspired collaborations in the works with Swarovski, Toy Watch, Mighty Fine, Charlotte Tarantola and Urban Decay.
