Billy Reid Debuts at Saks Fifth Avenue

The label, made up of suits, separates, and accessories, is now in eight Saks locations across the country.

RETURN POLICY: Billy Reid’s debut at Saks Fifth Avenue was feted Wednesday night alongside Esquire’s fashion director, Nick Sullivan, and the retailer’s vice president and fashion director of men’s wear, Eric Jennings.

“It’s coming full circle for me being here,” said the Alabama-born Reid, who started his fashion career as a manager at a Saks Fifth Avenue in Dallas, though he later admitted that he quit because he did not get along with his superior. And it took him five years to get the retailer to pick up his line. “The argument I kept getting was, ‘We don’t know where to put you. Should we put you in contemporary? Designer? Main floor? I used to get so ticked off about that, finally I was like, ‘I’m proud of that!’ ”

“I absolutely remember that,” said Jennings. “He knows who he is and he knows what he stands for. But through all the ups and the downs he’s been so patient with us and professional. He’s a Southern gentleman.”

The label, made up of suits, separates, and accessories, is now in eight Saks locations across the country. In New York City, Billy Reid sits on the seventh floor next to luxury brands like Versace, Dior, and DSquared2.
