LONDON CALLING: The British Fashion Council made a fashion layover in Los Angeles with its three-day showroom that opened Monday at the Ace Gallery. Highlighting E. Tautz, Jonathan Saunders, Marios Schwab, Roksanda Ilincic, Richard Nicoll, Todd Lynn and other emerging London-based designers, the venue served as a meeting spot for stylists such as Karla Welch, Elizabeth Stewart and Cher Coulter as well as retailers including H. Lorenzo, Curve, Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus. In between meet-and-greets, the designers squeezed in some R&R. Erdem Moralioglu grooved to Bryan Ferry at the Greek Theatre on Saturday, and Peter Pilotto and his co-designer Christopher Devos want to explore L.A.’s vintage stores and architecture. “I love hot weather so much,” Pilotto said, basking in the unseasonal mid-80s temps. British expat Jessica de Rothschild is hosting a party for more stylists to meet the designers at her home on Tuesday, and a cocktail party on Wednesday at the Skybar is expected to draw starlets whom Mary Katrantzou hopes to attract with her bold prints. “It’s a big statement to make,” she said, noting how young actresses opt instead to play it safe and chic on the red carpet. Nicholas Kirkwood, who’s planning to diversify into men’s shoes and handbags in a year, thinks L.A. is the place to be. “It’s the perfect town for high heels because you drive everywhere,” he said.
