BENETTON’S TRUE COLORS: United Colors of Benetton’s Chicago flagship is getting the Lissoni treatment, as in a once-over by Italian star architect Piero Lissoni, who has revamped significant stores in major cities, including the Benetton London megastore and Place de Opera megastore in Paris in 2010. Lissoni’s partnership with Benetton began in 2009 with a face-lift for the Istanbul flagship. Stores are designed to reflect the local culture of each city. The Chicago flagship, at 520 North Michigan Avenue, will open Saturday and is the first U.S. unit to be renovated by Lissoni. It will feature the first women’s collection by You Nguyen, chief merchandising officer and creative director. The Chicago unit highlights the contrast between dark fixtures and the store’s minimalist design. Other features include a larger-than-life attaché case housing sweaters and signage that reads United Colors of Chicago.
