The Go-Go’s Front Woman Branches Into Design

Belinda Carlisle has launched a home accessories line called Belindia that made its debut at Bergdorf Goodman in March.

BELINDA CARLISLE GO-GO’S TO BERGDORF’S: The Go-Go’s front woman Belinda Carlisle has branched into design with a home accessories line called Belindia that made its debut at Bergdorf Goodman in March. Made from textiles woven in India, where Carlisle has lived part-time for the past two years, the tabletop items and one-of-a-kind bedspreads, which begins selling at The Cross in London next week, range from $15 to $2,000 retail. The pieces are sewn by women in Calcutta in association with the Shuktara Project, which provides care for abandoned children with disabilities. A portion of sales also benefit the organization.

“I never thought I’d be doing anything like this,” Carlisle said. “But Bergdorf’s approached me while I was doing press for my book three years ago. At first it was a way for me to feel better about all the shopping I do while I’m in India, but it’s been a great challenge to put on a business thinking cap.”

While the singer, who is releasing a single called “Sum” in the U.K. and U.S. this fall, said she doesn’t have plans to go into apparel, she is interested in travel items and yogawear, but added, “Right now, the name of the game is looking for a partner to produce a more affordable home line.”
