Balenciaga Seasonal Store SoHo

BALENCIAGA’S STOPGAP SHOP: When Hurricane Sandy damaged Balenciaga’s New York flagship in Chelsea, the company was forced to temporarily close the location for repairs. A new 4,769-square-foot flagship at 148 Mercer Street in SoHo was under way, but still not ready. The brand decided to unveil a seasonal store that will bow in time to showcase the pre-spring 2013 collection.

The 2,000-square-foot seasonal store at 138 Wooster Street in SoHo is “the first step in Balenciaga establishing a major presence in SoHo,” the company said.

Balenciaga in June 2011 signed the permanent lease in SoHo, around the same time that Stella McCartney and Yves Saint Laurent announced moves to the neighborhood, sparking talk of a designer revival downtown.

In addition to pre-spring, the seasonal store will offer SS capsule lines (Silk, Black Dress, T’s, Knits, etc.) and also will carry fall men’s and women’s wear. Leather goods, shoes and handbags and Balenciaga fragrances will be available.
