BACK IN HOUSE: Stella McCartney Ltd. has taken direct control of its distribution operations in Japan, WWD has learned.
As of this month, the Japanese division will operate as a directly owned business unit, distributing ready-to-wear, accessories, lingerie and kids’ collections. For five-and-a-half years, McCartney had an exclusive distribution partnership with Unit and Guest Co. Ltd. Kazuyuki Ozawa, who previously worked at Unit and Guest, has been named president of Stella McCartney Japan, and will report to Frederick Lukoff, president and chief executive officer of Stella McCartney.
All products sold in Japan will continue to be imported from Europe, and all activities will be managed from the Shibuya headquarters, including management, commercial, public relations and marketing operations.
The brand has operated a flagship in Aoyama since 2008, as well as shops-in-shop in Mitsukoshi and Matsuya in Ginza, Isetan in Shinjuku, Hankyu in Osaka and a dedicated Stella McCartney Kids shop-in-shop in JR Nagoya Takashimaya.
