ANOTHER STORY: B Store, the London boutique that’s been offering an edgy mix of men’s and women’s wear since it bowed in 2001, today shut up its Kingly Street shop in London’s Soho. However, the boutique’s owners Kirk Beattie and Matthew Murphy have a new venture up their sleeves — come Monday, the store will re-open under the name The Other/ Shop and online at other-shop.com. The new retail concept will focus on supporting new and emerging designers, with Peter Jensen, Sophie Hulme, Awai and Marwood among the labels the space will carry.
The store will also carry homewares and books and will have a dedicated exhibition space. Beattie and Murphy noted that they want the store to serve as a platform to launch exclusive projects with emerging artists, designers and brands. “During [its] journey, B Store grew and developed into something quite different from our original vision,” said Murphy. “Because of this we decided to go back to the foundations and ideals that established B Store and to focus on the things, people and projects that have and continue to inspire us, [which] became Other.”
In addition to the store, Beattie and Murphy have launched their own men’s and women’s clothing label, also called Other, which the duo said will comprise “perfectly executed [wardrobe] staples.” Looks for the launch collection for fall include blazers in washed madras cotton, cotton chinos and cotton shirts. The B Store footwearlabel will continue to be sold at the new store and at its international stockists.
