AWARD NAMED FOR SCOTT: The Art of Elysium, a Los Angeles-based nonprofit that uses art, fashion design and music to help children with serious medical conditions, has created the L’Wren Scott Amber Award. As part of its Elysium Collections program, the honor is named for both the late fashion designer and Amber, one of the first children to participate in a fashion workshop at The Art of Elysium.
The L’Wren Scott Amber Award will be given to emerging fashion designers who in turn will donate their time to help hospitalized children. Winners will also create a small line of clothing that will benefit the Elysium Collections. Those items will be sold through The Art of Elysium’s Web site, and talks about partnering for the award are under way with various distribution outlets, according to a spokesman for Scott’s company.
Scott committed suicide March 17 in her New York apartment. Scott’s family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The Art of Elysium in her memory, according to a spokesman for her company.
The award’s name is meant to connect the artistic side of the group’s mission with the children that the organization pledges to serve.
Founded in 1997 by Jennifer Howell, The Art of Elysium has four programs: Elysium Sessions for music, Elysium Industry for theater arts, Elysium Project for the fine arts and Elysium Collections for fashion.
