Avon Products Inc. is dabbling in a bit of art and commerce.
The direct seller has selected Freeman’s auction house to offer more than 90 photographs from its corporate art collection. The ‘Works from Avon Collection’ is comprised of nearly all of the company’s photography collection, save for a few pieces, and includes significant works Imogen Cunningham, Louise Dahl-Wolfe, Berenice Abbott and Cindy Sherman.
The auction is slated to take place on Tuesday, Sept. 10, in Freeman’s Philadelphia, Pa. A portion of the proceeds will go toward the Avon Foundation for Women, which supports causes such as funding for breast cancer research and ending domestic violence. Freeman’s estimates that ‘Works from the Avon Collection will generate $250,000 in sales.
Avon’s corporate art collection, built around the premise of ‘beauty through the eyes of women,’ also includes sculpture, painting and other works on paper and is currently housed at the company’s global headquarters in Manhattan. The upcoming sale marks Avon’s first art auction.
“The Avon art collection represents many impressive female artists and we are happy to partner with Freeman’s to share these significant pieces of work,” stated Sheri McCoy, chief executive officer of Avon.
