Smythson of Bond Street has looked to the art world to create the latest edition to its ever-expanding collection of diaries. The 120-year-old London-based leather and luxury goods firm has collaborated with a host of acclaimed artists to launch its first series of art diaries. Rachel Whiteread, Gary Hume, John Baldessari and Ed Ruscha have each created a different cover design and customized the diaries' linings and ribbons. All the artists selected several examples of their own works for the diaries, which Smythson then worked into leather covers for each artist. Whiteread's design is inspired by her "Nets" series, while Hume's takes its cue from his "American Tan" works.

The diaries will hit stores in October, and have been produced in limited editions of around 100 copies of each diary. "It has been an honor to work with these eminent artists," said Samantha Cameron, creative director of Smythson, of the collaboration. The art diaries will also include listings edited by the London-based art publication the Art Newspaper, which will detail forthcoming exhibitions, art fairs, auctions and contacts. All the profits from sales on the limited editions, which will each be available in two sizes, will be donated to charities that the artists have chosen. The art diaries will also be available as a non-limited edition in Smythson's own leather covers, in a range of colors.
