ALWAYS THE CRITIC: The E network may have pulled Sunday’s rebroadcast of the “Fashion Police” episode where Joan Rivers and her cohorts lambasted Whitney Houston, but the comedian has no regrets. (The snarky remarks were made on a show that aired Feb. 10, the day before Houston died in Los Angeles.)
After Badgley Mischka’s show Tuesday, Rivers was asked if she had any remorse about her critique of Houston’s appearance. “When she’s alive, she’s fair game. It’s part of being a celebrity,” Rivers said.
“Am I sorry she died? Of course I am, for God’s sake,” Rivers continued. “But when she was alive we would talk about her just as we would talk about Anna Wintour or Angelina Jolie. If Angelina Jolie died tomorrow, I would still say she was anorexic.”
While critiquing one of Houston’s outfits on an episode of “Fashion Police” in May, Rivers said, “Poor Whitney, she can’t reach any of those high notes anymore or the good stuff that Bobby used to keep on the top shelf.”
Rivers sounded more conciliatory Saturday when she tweeted, “Whitney Houston. What a sad tragedy — the end of the life of an incredible talent. RIP to an amazing singer and legend.”
