DOOR-OPENER: Despite having no retail accounts yet, Paris-based, Mexico-born designer Aline Ochoa has big ambitions, starting with the opening Wednesday of her own store, situated just behind Paris’ Saint-Germain-des-Prés church. The designer, who was first assistant to Stefano Pilati at Yves Saint Laurent for a time and has also worked at Azzedine Alaïa, Alexander McQueen and Givenchy, offers an architectural line of eveningwear in natural fabrics. She is currently preparing her fifth ready-to-wear collection under her own label, on which she works with her husband Tom Bauer, the photographer behind its prints and visual identity. The designer will use the 320-square-foot space housing her boutique and atelier as a window to attract retail clients. She said she is targeting the likes of Bergdorf Goodman, Barneys and Le Bon Marché as well as multibrand stores with her designs, which retail for between 700 euros and 2,500 euros, or $948 and $3,386 at current exchange.
