PARIS — New York-based men's wear designer Adam Kimmel said he is taking a year-long sabbatical from fashion, putting his label on hiatus following shipments of the fall-winter 2012/2013 collection.

In a statement, Kimmel said he intends to "use this time to enrich my vision, spend time with my family, and explore a number of creative arenas that have interested me while I'm still young."

"I look forward to utilizing this next year to experiment and learn, and channel what I find into new concepts, designs and projects. I believe this is how designers become better stewards to their work," he added.

Armed with an architecture degree from NYU and a pack of friends in the contemporary art and design worlds, Kimmel founded his signature men’s wear label in 2004 and sells to about 80 stores worldwide including Barneys New York, Maxfield, The Webster, Colette in Paris and Dover Street Market in London.

He has earned a following for his artsy presentations in Paris — one featured models in George Condo-inspired monster masks — and masculine, workwear-inspired designs.

Kimmel noted his collections in collaboration with the labels Carhartt and Supreme would be delivered and released as planned.
