ONES TO WATCH: The Accessories Council and the Fashion Institute of Technology hosted its annual FIT Next Generation Awards on Tuesday evening, which honors current students doing extraordinary design work in the accessories market.

First- and second-prize winners were named in each of seven categories, with Ulrich Grimm, creative director of Calvin Klein Men’s & Women’s Shoes & Accessories appearing as guest speaker.

In its 12th year, the council encourages students to prepare and present a portfolio to be considered for a monetary award, broken down by category. Winners are selected by a panel of judges consisting of the event’s sponsors. This year, sponsors included Collection 18, FGX International, Haskell Jewels LLC, Luxottica, Monica Rich Kosann, Steve Madden, and Nine West.

First prize winners for 2014 were Jessica Shen (fine jewelry), Lana Nguyen (costume jewelry), Dwinisa Widjaja (footwear), Palwasha Iqbal (handbags), Anna Hammam (millinery, optical) and Eumjeong (portfolio).
