NEW KID ON THE BLOCK: Abercrombie Kids will unveil its first U.K. flagship — in a building that once housed the studio where The Beatles recorded “Let it Be” — on London’s Savile Row Saturday. Located just across the road from the Abercrombie & Fitch flagship, at 3 Savile Row, the 18th century Mayfair building was once the headquarters of The Beatles’ Apple Records. Abercrombie worked closely with English Heritage, an organization that helps preserve historical properties, to restore the building’s original features, including wood paneling and ceiling embellishments. And in a nod to its musical heritage, the three-story space will spotlight memorabilia including vintage photographs, books, vinyl records and a guitar signed by Sir Paul McCartney, along with its apparel and accessories collections for boys and girls.
“The Beatles are music legends and we’re fortunate to be able to open our first kids flagship in the UK in this location,” said Mike Jeffries, chief executive officer of Abercrombie & Fitch, in a statement. “We’re proud to offer our customers a unique shopping experience that pays respect to Apple Records and one of the most iconic bands of all time.” And to mark the launch, later this year Abercrombie Kids will host an event at the Savile Row store in aid of London’s Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital children’s charity. As part of the celebration, Abercrombie will donate 25,000 pounds, or $41,433 to help rebuild and refurbish the children’s hospital. Abercrombie Kids is a part of Abercrombie & Fitch Co. whose lifestyle brands also include Hollister Co. and Gilly Hicks.
