MILAN -- Giuseppe Brusone has been named general manager of Giorgio Armani SpA, the designer firm announced Tuesday.

Brusone has been serving as commercial director since he joined the company in 1986. He was also responsible for the Armani licenses.

The Brusone appointment was widely expected in the wake of Gabriella Forte's departure in May as Armani's executive vice president to join Calvin Klein Inc., New York, as president.

Brusone has been handling many of Forte's former duties and had essentially become the top executive in the Armani staff after the designer himself.

When asked what his priorities are in his new position, Brusone in a brief telephone interview Tuesday said: "Right now, we are concentrating on improving the company's internal structure so that we will be in a good position to expand further where Armani isn't already present."

He added one of the projects will be the launch of a line of Armani products for the home, an idea Armani has been interested in developing for some time but hasn't yet put into action.
