It's no secret that Jack Nicholson based some of his publishing tycoon character in "Wolf" on Random House's Jason Epstein. So Epstein and boss Harry Evans will host a private screening of the flick tonight at the Sony screening room for publishing insiders, including Evans's wife, Tina Brown, Judith Regan, and Fran Lebowitz. The big joke around Random House is, what's so unusual about a publisher with the heart of a wolf?



Philippe and Victoria Niarchos will be setting up housekeeping in Paris. Their father, Stavros Niarchos, is giving them his house, the Hotel de Chanaleilles on the Rue de Chanaleilles, which is in the heart of the seventh arrondisement. Rumor has it that Jacques Grange has been employed to decorate --- but he won't touch the house's parquet floors, which were commissioned by Napoleon and are made of 34 types of wood.
